ICNP 2007 Student Travel Grant Program

Overview

ICNP 2007 expects to receive a limited number of travel grants from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). The grants aim to support graduate students in U.S. academic institutions to attend the 2007 IEEE International Conference in Network Protocols (ICNP) in Beijing, China. An important goal is to broaden participation in the conference by supporting students with interests in network protocol research who would otherwise be unable to attend.

Form and Amount of Support

The support is intended to defray, but not necessarily to cover entirely, the costs of attending the conference. The costs include conference registration (at the student rate), hotel, and transportation. We expect to award approximately twenty student travel grants, at an amount not to exceed $1100 per grant.

The award will be handled via reimbursements. Each legitimate expense must be documented with an original official receipt (e.g., air ticket and hotel receipt). The reimbursement will be sent as a check via postal mail six to eight weeks after submitting the reimbursement forms and supporting receipts. Further details of the reimbursement procedure will be communicated to the award recipients.

Awardees who are not U.S. citizens or permanent residents will also need to provide a copy of their passport, the I-94 form, and a valid student visa.

*** IMPORTANT: It is the responsibility of the succsessful applicants to make sure that he/she will have a suitable travel visa to attend the conference in China. Further information on the visa application can be found at: click here

How to Apply

1) The applicant should send an application containing:

- A vita, containing basic information such as the degrees earned, the current academic institution and degree objective, relevant coursework and grades, and relevant publications or other research output.

- A letter that (i) briefly summarizes the applicant's current research interests and relevant research accomplishments; (ii) states the conferences/workshops, if any, previously attended; (iii) discusses how attendance in ICNP 2007 will benefit the professional development of the applicant, including the technical sessions that are particularly interesting; and (iv) any other relevant information that the applicant feels is particularly noteworthy (but please keep it brief).

2) The advisor should send a supporting letter for the application stating (i) the name of the student applicant; (ii) that the student is a Ph.D. student in good standing in his/her institution; (iii) a brief evaluation of the student's strengths in areas of interest to ICNP; and (iv) why the student is in need of a travel grant (in particular, if the student is the coauthor of an accepted paper, the letter must specify if the other co-authors will be attending and presenting the work -- students attending to present their own work are expected to be supported by their existing funding and will be given lower priority).

Applications and the support letters should be emailed by the applicant and the applicant's advisor, respectively, to cnp2007@cs.purdue.edu with subject line "ICNP Student Travel Grant Application" or "ICNP Student Travel Grant Support letter". ASCII format is strongly preferred, although PDF format is acceptable.

ICNP 2007 Minority Faculty Travel Grant Program

Overview

ICNP 2007 expects to receive a limited number of minority faculty travel grants from the U.S. National Science Foundation (NSF). The grants aim to support underrepresented minority/women faculty members in U.S. academic institutions to attend the 2007 IEEE International Conference in Network Protocols (ICNP) in Beijing, China. Faculty members who primarily serve minority students, e.g., in U.S. (including Puerto Rico) institutions primarily serving students from these communities, are also encouraged to apply. An important goal is to broaden participation in the conference by supporting faculty members with interests in network protocol research who would otherwise be unable to attend. Junior faculty members will be strongly preferred.

Form and Amount of Support

The support is intended to defray, but not necessarily to cover entirely, the costs of attending the conference. The costs include conference registration, hotel, and transportation. We expect to award 6--10 faculty travel grants, at an amount of $1300--$2000 per grant.
