Things To Do in Atlanta
Atlanta is a vibrant metropolis with approximately 3.5 million
people living in the metropolitan area. There is much to see and do
in and around Atlanta. Here is a list of suggestions for how you
may spend your free time when you come to ICNP97.
More information on the locations of these attractions
can be obtained at the conference from any of the conference organizers or
from the hotel desk.
- Visit the High Museum of Art.
- Take the kids to Zoo Atlanta.
- Attend a show at the Fox Theatre, the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra,
The Atlanta Ballet Company, The Center for Puppetry Arts (excellent for
children), or Georgia Tech's Theatre for the Arts.
- Take a behind the scenes tour of the CNN operations at eth CNN
Center.
- Visit the Coca Cola Museum.
- Visit the Atlanta Botanical Gardens.
- Visit Stone Mountain Park. Lots to do for grownups and children.
- Spend the day at the Six Flags over Georgia Theme Park.
- Go to Dinner or Lunch in many of Atlanta's
excellent restaurants. Many are located within
walking distance of the hotel.
- Spend time at one of the Chattahootchee River Parks and "shoot the
hootch".
- Watch the Atlanta Braves WIN in the brand new Turner Field
(nee as the 1996 OLYMPIC STADIUM).
- Go shopping in one of Atlanta's famous malls. Lenox Mall and Phipps
Plaza will be across the street from the conference site. Easily reachable by
train is Perimeter Mall. Other malls that can be reached by car include:
Cumberland Mall, Northlake Mall, Gwinnett Place Mall. Farther out are
North Pointe Mall and Town Center Mall.
- For Civil War buffs: Visit the Cyclorama and spend time at
the Kennesaw Mountain Park.
A Little Farther Out (2 Hrs Drive)
- Go to the North Georgia Mountains. Head for Helen, Georgia (2Hrs North
of Atlanta)
and make sure to visit the many attractions around the town, Anna Ruby
Falls, and Brass Town Bald mountain. Should be an excellent time to watch
the Fall Colors.
- Visit Callaway Gardens (2 Hrs South of Atlanta).
- Visit Chattanooga, Tennesee (2 Hrs North of Atlanta).
- Visit Lake Lanier (2 Hrs North of Atlanta).
